Bus or taxi from Calvi to Calenzana (15 min). Start at first light — the climb is south-facing and hot by 10 am in July.

Sleep the night before in Calvi (Hotel Onda) or the village Auberge Chez Michel. Refuge d'Ortu is bookable via ffrandonnee.fr.

Not for young children. Real elevation, no shade above the tree line. Carry three litres of water and start before sunrise.

Road transfer or bus from Zonza village to Col de Bavella (15 min). Return via the Bocca di Barcaghjolu — a full loop possible in one long day.

Auberge du Col de Bavella (family-run, wild-boar stew) or the pine chalets of Zonza. Refuge d'Asinao is the GR20 way-station itself.

A short chain-assisted scramble near the needles — turn back if uncertain. The main trail is well-marked red-and-white.

Travel to Col de Vergio (the D84 pass road) from Corte or Porto. Parking at the col; trail signed for Lac de Nino from the eastern side.

Hotel Castel di Vergio at the trailhead (basic, GR20-friendly). Corte is 45 min east for a proper Corsican dinner.

The gentlest GR20 day — good for confident walkers 10+. The pozzine peat meadows are fragile; stay on trail.
