Day 2 · moorland day
Machame Camp → Shira Camp
Out of the last rainforest into the giant heather zone — mist opening onto senecio trees and lobelia, then the wide silence of the Shira plateau with the summit dome ahead.

Practical, gently arranged
Walk high, sleep low: after arrival at Shira, do a 30-min stroll uphill before dinner. Every metre matters.
4 L per day, minimum. Add electrolytes — thin air dehydrates you before you feel thirsty.
All Kilimanjaro climbs must be booked through a licensed operator. KPAP-partner operators guarantee fair porter wages.
