Reykjavík Excursions bus 11/11a from BSÍ terminal to Landmannalaugar (4 h). Only runs late June to mid-September, weather permitting. Reserve at re.is.
Hrafntinnusker FÍ hut (52 beds, unheated dorm) — book 6+ months ahead at fi.is. Camping allowed beside the hut. Landmannalaugar hut for the night before.
Trail typically open 25 Jun – 10 Sep depending on snow. Weather changes in minutes above 1000 m — check vedur.is/en and safetravel.is the morning of.
Yellow marker poles every 50–100 m; essential in fog. Download the GPX below and carry a paper map — cellular fails on the plateau.
Confident walkers 14+. Real weather exposure, no bail-out. Not for young children unless with an experienced guide.
